NYSC urges corps members to embrace entrepreneurial skills
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Tuesday advised its 1,354 corps members in Abia to embrace entrepreneurial skills.
The Director-General of NYSC, Brig-Gen Ibrahim Shuaibu, gave the advice at the inauguration of this year’s Batch C, Stream 1 orientation course in Abia.
Shuaibu said that the corps in the state consisted 609 males and 745 females, cutting across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
Represented by the state NYSC Coordinator, Mr Denise Jingi, Shuaibu congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of their academic programmes.
He urged them to avail themselves of the scheme’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.
Shuaibu enjoined them not to begin to look for white collar jobs, but to equip themselves with entrepreneurial skills.
“Let me use this opportunity to caution you against indulgence in cultism, drug abuse and other social vices.
“I also urge you to use the social media only for the promotion of unity and other positive purposes rather than rumour peddling and the promotion of hatred,” he said.
It was reported that oath of allegiance was administered to the corps members by Justice Onuoha Ogwe, Abia Chief Judge, represented by Justice Ucheoma Enwereji.
