Yobe empowers 20,000 youths in 2 years, says Buni
Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe on Friday said his government had provided soft loans and skill acquisition training to over 20,000 youths from 2020 to 2021.
Buni disclosed this in Damaturu when the National Vice President, Arewa Traders Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Isa Adamu, paid him a courtesy visit.
Represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Idi Gubana, the governor said youth empowerment was a top priority of his administration.
“This government attaches so much importance to empowerment of youths to make them become self-reliant and boost the economic status of the state.
“When you empower youths, you will take them off the streets and also enhance security of lives and property in the state”, he said.
Buni commended the leadership of the association for its support and advice to government to achieve its goals and objectives.
In his remarks, Adamu thanked Buni for donating a utility vehicle to the association.
He commended the governor for funding the ongoing construction of a trailer park, four modern markets and resuscitation of industries, among others, in the state.
The chairman noted that the gesture would reduce poverty, create jobs and improve security.
Adamu, however, appealed to the state government to provide loan to members of the association to boost their trading activities.
