FUL to commence medical programmes in December – VC
The Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Lokoja, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, has said that efforts are being made for the institution to commence Health and medical programmes in December, this year.
Akinwumi disclosed this in an interview on the sidelines of the Media briefing to commence activities to mark the fifth Convocation Ceremony of the institution at the Felele Campus on Monday in Lokoja.
The Vice Chancellor said to this end, the university has appointed Prof. Mike Ogirima, former National President of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), as the provost of College of Health sciences in the Institution.
He noted that the management of the University had approached the Joint and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to facilitate the intake of the first set of medical students in December.
On security of the vast Permanent site and and students population, he said that the University had engaged the services of qualified and professional hunters to complement the conventional security agencies in securing the Felele campus.
The VC hinted that the management had written to the Senate, TETFund and NNPC on the need to construct perimeter fencing to secure the permanent site.
Akinwumi revealed that the National Universities Commission (NUC) and JAMB had approved the increase of admission quota from 1,500 to 4,000 students.
He said the university was working towards improving water supply, power, furniture and a standard health services centre for improved service delivery.
