Yobe Govt, UNDP constructed 600 shops, others – Buni
Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, said the state government in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has built 600 shops and stalls at Buni Yadi Market in Gujba Local Government Area of the state.
Buni disclosed this at the inauguration of the projects on Monday in Buni Yadi, Yobe.
He said the project was part of concerted efforts at reconstruction and rehabilitation of the areas affected by the insurgency.
The governor noted that the project would boost trade in the town known as the commercial nerve centre for traders from Borno, Taraba, Adamawa and Kano States.
“The project will rejuvenate the economy of the people, boost local revenue and fastrack recovery, infrastructure and rehabilitation drive of this administration,” he said.
Buni charged the local council authorities to ensure that due process was followed in the allocation of the shops and stalls to the people.
At Buni Gari, the governor also inaugurated International Primary School built by the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in collaboration with the state government.
He pledged to continue to partner state and non state actors in areas that would bring development to the state.
While thanking SPDC for the gesture, Buni further directed the local council authorities to ensure adquate security in the school.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Alhaji Abubakar Iliya, said the school was designed with four blocks of 16 classrooms.
He listed other structures to include administrative block, laboratory, ICT unit, solar-powered boreholes, recreational facilities, among others.
