Scavenger bags 2 years imprisonment for receiving stolen property
A Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court on Wednesday sentenced a 20-year-old scavenger, Abdulmalik Usman, to two years in prison for receiving two stolen block producing machine coils.
The judge also sentenced a labourer, Adamu Dabo who sold the stolen property to Usman, to 16 months in prison for theft.
Usman and Dabo whom were convicted and sentenced after pleading guilty to the charge against them, begged the court to temper justice with mercy.
The Judge, Muhammad Adamu, however, gave Usman and Dabo an option of N20, 000 fine each and warned them to desist from committing crime.
Adamu also ordered Dabo to pay N300, 000 as compensation to the complainant, Engineer, Huzaifa Mohammed.
The Prosecutor, John Okpa, had told the court that the complainant reported the case at Dutse Alhaji Police Station on Jan.14.
Okpa said Dabo stole two block producing machine coils, exhaust and some iron valued at N400, 000 from the complainant’s block industry at FO1, Kubwa, Abuja on Jan.10.
He further said during police investigations, Dabo confessed to have sold the stolen items to Usman at N5, 200.
The prosecution counsel said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 317, 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.
