Our special patrols not limited to Yuletide – FRSC
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), says its special patrols are not limited to end of year festivities but are conducted during other festivals and when the need arises.
The Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Mr Bisi Kazeem said this in an interview with our correspondent on Wednesday.
Kazeem, who was responding to insinuations in some quarters that the corps special interventions were only conducted during the Yuletide, added that the corps operates throughout the year.
According to him, this is in line with its mandate to keep the roads safe, check accidents and ensure free flow of traffic at all times.
Kazeem, however, said that some months, due to the festivities and other activities associated with them, tend to record increased vehicular movement.
According to him, when faced with such occasions, we beef up the highways by deploying more operatives and equipment to ensure that the increase in vehicular movement do not result in road accidents.
“It is, therefore, this enhanced deployment to ensure better visibility that we code-name special patrol operations.”
“These operations are not limited to end of the year alone. Anyone conversant with our operations will know that the corps embarks on these special operations when the need arises.”
“For instance, during Easter, this is often at the beginning of second quarter of the year, Eid-el Fitri and Eid-el Kabir,” he said.
Kazeem also said the corps, within intervals, conducted special intervention patrols, saying that they were organised when a particular driving behaviour become noticeable with tendency to cause accidents.
He explained that such interventions were organised to change the behaviour and prevent accidents, saying that they were preventive mechanism in the corps operational programmes.
“So, it is not wise to conclude that the corps organises special patrols only during the end of the year because it is a recurring process,” he stressed.
