Candidates react to JAMB’s 160 cut-off mark for admissions

Mrs Naomi Akpan, a counselor at the University of Abuja, FCT, on Friday, commended JAMB for adding Physical health education and computer science subjects to its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Akpan told our correspondent in Gwagwalada, FCT, that the two subjects would help improve student’s ability in the area of sports and Information Technology (IT).

According to her, introducing computer science would help solve business or organisational problems and cyber security on a broad scale, while Physical Health Education would improve the sports sector.

She, however, called on government and relevant authorities to employ more Counsellors in various offices, especially the education sector.

“First of all I want to appreciate JAMB for introducing Physical Health Education and Computer Science subjects in its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.”

“It is my deepest hope that the subjects will go a long way to improve student’s ability in areas of sports and Information Technology.”

“Furthermore, I want to appeal to the government and relevant authorities to employ more Counsellors in various offices, especially in the education institutions,” she said.

She said there was need to create awareness and educate people on the need to patronise Counsellors, to help address trauma related issues in the country.

The counsellor called on parents to properly bring up their children for the development of the country, saying that for a child to be effective in school the home front had a greater role to play.

Our correspondent recalls that JAMB recently announced the introduction of Computer Studies and Physical and Health Education as part of its UTME subjects.

The Board said that candidates sitting for the UTME could now pick Computer Studies or Physical and Health Education as part of the four required UTME subjects, if they so desire or as dictated by their programme preferences.

The board said that the addition of the two subjects to the existing 23 UTME subjects, would commence from the 2022 UTME exercise.
