FRSC unveils strategies to curb road traffic crashes in 2022
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Zone RS7 Command, has designed operational and public enlightenment campaign strategies to achieve reduction in road crashes in 2022.
The Zonal Commanding officer, Zone RS7 command, Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Shehu Mohammed, said this while presenting 2021 report at a news briefing on Friday in Abuja.
Mohammed said the strategies were drafted in alignment with the 2022 corporate strategic goals of the Corps.
He said the Corps had designed numerous measures in the area of re-aligned patrols, public advocacy, strict enforcement to traffic regulations and increased response to road crashes.
He said these were part of measures to build a strong gateway with the Nigerian motoring public on road safety management in Abuja and Niger state sector commands.
Mohammed said FRSC had re-strategised towards stemming the tide with a strong mandate to sector commanders under its jurisdiction.
“This is to up the ante in public enlightenment, patrols, rescue services and enforcement of traffic rules and regulations in order to bring down number of crashes by half in the second quarter of 2022.”
“Some of the counter measures by the Zonal command include special intervention patrols, inter-command joint patrols and robust public enlightenment campaigns along the critical corridors.”
“Also, improved stakeholders and response time by the Zebra emergency points, engagement through town hall meetings with transport union leaders and domesticated public awareness campaigns among other measures.”
“This is to ensure sanity on the highways under the Abuja Zonal Command jurisdiction in line with the United Nations Decade of Action on Road Safety,” he said.
Mohammed said the corps had further sensitised and enlisted the collaboration of all stakeholders in the Nigerian Road Safety Strategy document.
He said its aimed at envisioning a Zonal command where road crashes would result to Zero deaths and improved staff capacity in operational duties to meet with the dynamics of proper road usage in Nigeria.
Mohammed said the Abuja Zonal Command was presently developing a 3-point agenda towards repositioning road safety management and traffic administration within its area of Jurisdiction.
