The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Lagos State chapter, has congratulated Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Lagos residents on the newly approved state-owned universities.

IPAC Chairman in Lagos, Mr Olusegun Mobolaji, in a statement on Wednesday, described the two newly approved state universities as great feat.

Mobolaji also commended the Lagos State House of Assembly for the expeditious actions that resulted in the achievement of the feat.

“Quality education is one of the major factors and key elements of growth and stability for any society or Nation. We are excited by this great achievement.”

“Lagos State Government by this action, under the leadership of Sanwo-Olu is taking a good step in the right direction to build a sane and responsible society through quality education,” he said.

Mobolaji, the state Publicity Secretary of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), said the best thing to make the feat worthwhile remain adequate provision of infrastructure and conducive learning environment for the students.

He advised the government to ensure maintenance system and culture in all its citadels of learning.

“It is one thing to provide quality education, it is another thing to have a job after school.”

“It will be well appreciated that more job opportunities are created for existing graduates and provisions made for coming ones,” Mobolaji said.

Our correspondent reports that the National Universities Commission (NUC) on Tuesday gave the Lagos State Government clearance certificates of operations for the two newly approved State-owned universities.

These are Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Ijanikin, and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUST), Ikorodu.

This came 39 years after the first state-owned university, Lagos State University (LASU), was established.

With the clearance certificates of operation by NUC, LASUED is now the 56th State University and 204th University in Nigeria, as well as the second university of education in Nigeria.

LASUST is now 57th state university and 205th University in Nigeria.

Sanwo-Olu had recently assented to the bills transmitting Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, to the University of Science and Technology.

The others are Adeniran Ogunsanya Colleges of Education, Ijanikin and Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, Epe, to Lagos State University of Education.
