APC National Convention: Group urges members to resist imposition ploy

The Progressives Professionals Forum (PPF), a group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday charged members to resist plans by a group to foist a consensus national chairman on it.

PPF’s National Coordinator, Mr Michael Adenegan stated in Abuja that the group was hatching its plan, using President Muhammadu Buhari’s name.

He said it was inconceivable that anyone could consider a founding member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to head the APC.

It was reported that the PPF is an umbrella body of professionals within and outside the country in the APC.

“We woke up on Thursday morning to be greeted with shocking and viral news on the purported choice of a former governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Adamu, as the next chairman of our party.

“Going through the news item, we found out that it was attributed to ‘credible source’ which turned out to be a governor.

“We know that President Buhari will not be favourably disposed to the choice of a founding member of PDP who cannot be described as a progressive as APC chairman.

“We also warn millions of APC members to be wary of the antics of some highly-placed individuals bent on seizing control of the party ahead of the presidential primary,” he stated.

Adenegan stressed that on no account should APC leaders consider handing over the party structures to politicians who were not core progressives.

He urged APC members to be wary of antics that could destroy the party from the inside ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The APC has scheduled its National Convention for March 26 to elect new national executives to manage its affairs which is presently being managed by its Gov. Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee.
