Man docked for allegedly “punching” wife

A 56-year-old man, Felix Obaji, was on Tuesday docked in an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly punching wife on the lips.

The defendant was arraigned before Magistrate D.S Odukoya for assault and causing bodily harm.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge

The Prosecution Counsel. Insp Esther Adesulu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 13, at the “God is Good” compound located at Orisha Imude, Ajangbadi in Ojo Lagos.

She alleged that the defendant busted his wife Abigail’s lips.

The offence , she said, contravenes the provisions of Section 173 of he Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015

Magistrate Odukoya, then asked the complainant, Abigail, to explain what caused the problems.

In her response,Abigail, said that her brother sent her N100,000, through her husband’s account.

”He became very angry when I asked for the money.

”He punched me many times on the mouth, busting my lower lip”, she said.

In her observation, Magistrate Odukoya, noted that issues of domestic violence had been on the rise and made reference to the recent death of a popular gospel singer Osinachi.

She condemned the spate of domestic unrest in society, adding that such violence can emanate from both husband and wife whether physically or verbally.

She noted that the complainant was at liberty to forgive the defendant, but added that she should take her time to “heal

Odukoya admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum

She adjourned the case until May 10 for mention.
