Court sentences man to 9 months imprisonment for stealing mobile phone
An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced a 23-year old man, Oluwasegun Odejobi, to nine months imprisonment for stealing a Samsung mobile phone valued at N37,000.
The Magistrate, Mrs M. C. Ayinde, sentenced the convict to Kirikiri Correctional Centre for nine months
Ayinde sentenced him to four months in prison for count one; and five months for count two, both sentences to run concurrently.
Ayinde said it would serve as deterrent to others.
Our correspondent reports that the convict was arraigned on July 4 on a two-count charge of illegal entering an apartment and stealing.
The defendant, an aluminum bender, resided at No. 5, Oyewole St., Massamasa area, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Segun Oke, told the court that the offences were committed on June 29 at No 3, Egbeda Idimu Road, Moshalasi Bus Stop, Egbeda, Lagos.
Oke told the court that the convict entered Mr Collins Okoye’s shop and stole his Samsung S3 mobile phone.
The prosecutor also said that the convict had stolen from the same shop before, addiy that he was caught and handed over to the police this time.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravened sections 287 and 308 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
