Sierra Leone crisis: Nigerian Military not responsible for death of protestors – Mission

The Nigerian High Commission in Freetown, Sierra Leone says the Nigerian Military force in the Sierra Leone is not responsible for the death of protestors in the recent crisis in the country.

The Nigerian mission refuted the allegation in a statement signed by the Consular, Paul Alabi on Friday.

The Nigerian mission in Freetown refuted the allegations circulating in the media that the Nigerian military shot at Sierra Leonean citizens who were protesting against the government.

The mission, however, said that it would continue to collaborate with host government authorities to protect the interest and welfare of Nigerians in Sierra Leone.

“The attention of the Nigeria High Commission in Freetown has been brought to the viral audio which alleged that Nigerian military officers were responsible for the deaths of protestors at the widespread demonstration on Aug.10.

“Mission wishes to inform Nigerians that the high commission has engaged relevant host government agencies on the viral audio and investigations have commenced to unravel the perpetuators of this falsehood.

“We urge all Nigerians across the country to maintain calm and be law abiding.

“In the same vein, mission strongly advises compatriots to adhere to the curfew order from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily, as well as monitor local news media for information.
