Sen. Mukhail Abiru, (APC – Lagos East) says he has disbursed the sum of N130million to vulnerable people in Lagos East Senatorial District under his COVID-19 Financial Relief Scheme.
This is contained in a statement signed by Enitan Olukotun, his personal assistant on media on Thursday.
He said the no fewer than 2500 people, comprising widows, people with disabilities, the aged, unemployed youths and women, benefitted from the scheme.
The senator added that the beneficiaries received direct monthly credit transfers of N5,000 each into their respective bank accounts.
“Beneficiaries were nominated by 98 ward chairmen, local government party chairmen, Community Development Committees (CDCs), members of Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC).
“Royal fathers, League of Imams, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and notable leaders in the district also nominated beneficiaries,” he said.
According to him, the scheme which kicked off in Jan. 2021 was earlier planned to terminate in Dec. 2021, but was continued in 2022 as the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic were yet to fully abate.
Abiru said his concern for the plight of the poor necessitated the continuation of the financial support, to ease their hardship.
Abiru promised to continue to deliver on his electoral promise to positively impact the larger number of people in the senatorial district.
