Lagos assures support for construction industry growth
Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu says his administration will continue to support the construction industry.
According to him, it will do so by planning, coordinating and facilitating strategic investment in infrastructure to lay foundation for long term growth.
This is contained in a statement on Tuesday by Mr Adeshina Odunuga, spokesman of the Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.
Odunuga said the governor, represented by his Special Adviser on Works and infrastructure, Mrs Aramide Adeyoye, said this at the Official Opening Ceremony of Big 5 Construct Nigeria, in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The Big 5 construct Nigeria is West Africa’s largest annual event drawing participants including buyers, suppliers, influencers, decision makers and innovators, experts and educators from NIgeria and beyond.
The year 2022 event had investors from various countries including Kuwait, Turkey, Dubai, China, Saudi Arabia.
The Special Adviser said Lagos State was fortunate to host global experts in view of the importance of the construction sector.
She said it was important in achieving sustainable socio-economic development in a fast-growing and highly competitive economy as Lagos.
According to her, Lagos State has a target to generate a strong economic base for the productivity of the people with its attendant impact on employment and innovation.
Adeyoye said it also had a target to become the preferred investment destination in Africa.
She said, “without adequate and quality infrastructure, it will be impossible to create jobs at the rate required to engage the growing population of our youth.
“It is therefore not surprising that the exhibition of this magnitude is happening in the city of Lagos.”
She commended conveners of “the Big 5 construct Nigeria” for sustaining the annual exhibition.
Adeyoye described it as an excellent platform to network with professionals, visitors, exhibitors and construction industry experts.
Also speaking during a session of the Chartered Institute of Builders Masterclass, Mr Adeniyi Andrew, Project Coordinator, South West, Royal Builders, emphasised the importance of Quality Control and ISO standardisation in the sector.
He urged construction stakeholders to always ensure quality assurance.
