Lalong preaches unity, love among Nigerians

Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau has advised Christians and indeed Nigerians to be united and love one another at all times.

The governor gave the advice at the opening of the Maden Reunion of the Alumni Association of the Theological College of Northern Nigeria (AATCNN) on Tuesday in Jos.

Lalong, represented by his Deputy, Prof. Sonni Tyoden, said that the lack of unity and love among Nigerians was tearing the nation apart.

According to him, the insecurity and other challenges currently facing the nation could be overecomed if Nigerians would put their differences aside and be united.

”The challenges we are passing through today are surmountable, but only when we are united and love one another.

”We must be united so that we can collectively return our nation to the path of growth and development.

”We have all it takes to be better and greater and so, in unison we can change our story for the better,” he said.

Lalong further advised Christians to participate in active politics, insisting that power, particularly state power, was not given but taken through active participation.

Delivering a lecture, Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, the Primate of the Church of Anglican Communion, called on goverment to tackle the spate of insecurity in the country.

Ndukuba, who corroborated Lalong, also called on Christians to be deeply involved in active politics, but advised them to play the game according to the rules.

”You must be involved in the act of governance and you can only do that when you are actively involved in politics.

”It is good to pray, but prayer alone can’t change our situation. You cannot even change things for the better from the outside.

”So, Christians must take the right place in the political space and change our current situation in the nation,”he said.

Prof. Lazarus Tekdek, President of the Association, charged members to be the agent of transformation and solution providers to the upcoming students of the college and larger society.

He revealed that the association had supported over 600 pastors in their education, cutting across 31 denominations and promised to sponsor 124 students of the college.

Tekdwk explained that the association would use the reunion to mobilise resources to complete some of the ongoing projects in the institution.
