NSCDC to foster employment for Nigerians

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Cooperative Society is to recruit job seeking Nigerians as staff of its new Cooperative Hospitality House.

NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Audi said this on Monday during the Ground Breaking Ceremony of the Corps’ Cooperative House at NSCDC Headquarters in Abuja.

According to Audi, “This project will no doubt be an employer of labour as it will provide job opportunities to our teeming unemployed youths.

“Not only at every stage of its development but even upon completion thereby taking them off the streets where they could be vulnerable to corruption by criminals and people with criminal tendencies.”

He said that the project which was initiated in December 2021, is germane and central to the growth of the Corps.

He further said that upon completion, the hospitality scheme is expected to increase the fortunes of the Cooperative Society and to impact positively on the Corps’ welfare drive of its members.

The CG said it would also serve as an additional source of revenue generation for the Cooperative.

“The Cooperative House is designed to accommodate such facilities as conference halls, event centres, shopping mall, guest house, gym and other recreational facilities, services.

“This will be available for use not only to its members, but will also be opened for use by the general public,” he said.

Audi cautioned the Society management against mismanagement of resources at the detriment of members welfare.

“As Executives, you are expected to offer selfless services and not fritter away resources pooled together by members under your care.

“Let me remind you that you will be held accountable for your conduct in the course of your tenure as executives of the Cooperative Society,” he said.

He appreciated Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, Gov. Babagana Zulu of Borno, BUA Group, SIDAX Group and other well meaning Nigerians for their huge contributions to the project.

Assistant Commandant of Corps Aina Jones, President, NSCDC Headquarters Staff Cooperative Society, said that the 200 rooms hospitality house would be opened to officers of the Corps and the public.

Jones said that the project, which is aimed at generating money to the cooperative, would be affordable to staff because it’s a moral right to do so.

He said that funds for the construction, which is estimated to be completed in 18 months, would be raised through Corporate Social Responsibility.

The Nasarawa state governor commended the corps’ effort in the security architecture of the nation as he congratulated NSCDC for the new initiative.

“We must stand up and defend our nation and not allow criminals overtake us nor scare us out of Abuja following the recent threats.

“When you do your work remember you are doing it for your children and grandchildren and not just as members of the Corps.

“Nigeria is safe, Nigeria will continue to be safe and you will continue to support our country,” he said.

The Governor donated the sum of N10 million to the project and also promised to offer NSCDC a free land space for the construction of a similar project in Nasarawa state.

He also promised to make a donation to the state Command as he appreciated the Corps for the plan to name a floor in the building in his name.

Our Correspondent reports that the representative from BUA Group, Mr Aliyu Hong, pledged the sum of N50 million on behalf of BUA Chairman while Deputy Gov. Umar Usman of Borno donated N10m on behalf of the state.
