Police arraign 2 for alleged armed robbery
The Police Command in Benue on Friday arraigned John Agbeke and Akpa Terdoo before a Makurdi Upper Area Court II for alleged criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide.
The prosecutor, Insp. Veronica Shaagee, told the court that the case was transferred from ‘C’ Division Police Station, North Bank, Makurdi, to the State Criminal Investigation Department, via letter No. AR:3100/BNS/MKC/VOL.9/231 dated Nov. 11.
Shaagee said that one Suleiman Yunusa of Gidan Kalo, Katungu, North Bank, Makurdi, came with blood all over his body and reported the case at the ‘C’ Division Police Station on Nov. 2.
She said that the informant conveyed a passenger from North Bank to Atsor village within Makurdi town.
On reaching there, the passenger conspired with two others, stabbed him on his stomach three times and made away with his Honda ACE 110 motorcycle, valued at N400,000.
The prosecutor said that the informant later died at the Divine Love Hospital, High-Level, Makurdi.
She said that the defendants, Agbeke and Terdoo, were arrested and confessed to committing the crimes during investigation.
The prosecutor told the court that the knife the defendants used in attacking their victims was recovered from Agbeke.
Shaagee said that the defendant also mentioned Dyondun Kpe, Alhaji, whose surname is unknown, Terhumba Boniface; and Terdoo Shaorga as co-conspirators.
According to her, the accomplices are at large.
She said the offences contravened Sections 6(b), 1, 2 (a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provision Act 2004 and Section 222 of the Penal Code Law of Benue, 2004.
Shaagee said that investigation into the matter was ongoing and requested for time to complete it.
However, when the case came up for mention, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction.
The Magistrate, Mr Vershima Hwande, remanded the defendants at the Federal Maximum Correctional Centre Makurdi, and adjourned the case until Dec. 20 for further mention.
