NYSC assures of support for 2023 population census, general elections
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has assired of its readiness to ensuring the 2023 general elections and national population/housing census record huge success.
The Acting Director-General of the scheme, Mrs Christy Uba, gave the assurance on Sunday in a statement issued by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Mr Eddy Megwa.
According to the statement, Uba said this while addressing corps members and camp officials during her visit to the NYSC Anambra Orientation Camp at Mbaukwu/Umuawulu.
She also said the scheme would continue to throw its weight behind all other policies and programmes of the Federal Government that required its support.
According to her, NYSC, which is the foremost youth mobilising body in the African continent, had been uniting the country, through its deployment process, participation in national assignments and corps members’ Community Development Service (CDS) projects.
“Your participation in 2023 election is an adhoc assignment, you must be neutral and apolitical, and do not violate any of the electoral laws. You are seriously advised to adhere to these instructions.
”Be good ambassadors of your institutions, families and NYSC.
”You are now part of history as millions of youths have passed through the scheme, and today they are leaders.
”You must be security conscious at all times. You are expected to be of good conduct and avoid cutting corners,” the acting director-general said.
Uba admonished the corps members to impact positively in their host communities, which would serve as good memories after they exit service.
She also implored them to justify the huge investments of the government and their parents on them.
The NYSC Anambra Coordinator, Mrs Blessing Iruma, said the acting director-general’s visit, which coincided with the camp’s cultural carnival, was an attestation to Uba’s passion for corps members.
She added that the celebration of camp cultural festival also showcases Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, as a way of strengthening the cord of unity among successive batches of corps members.
