Road accidents in Anambra down by 30% in 6 months – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS 7.17 Kuje Unit, on Friday cautioned motorcycle operators against recklessness, to forestall road accidents in the area during the Yuletide.

FRSC Unit Commander, Kuje, Mr Eugene Nwabuike, made the remark in an interview with our correspondent shortly after a sensitisation campaign for motorcyclists in Kuje area of the FCT.

Nwabuike said the sensitisation became necessary to ensure that accidents were reduced on the roads before, during and after the ’ember’ months.

According to him, the 2022 ’ember months’ campaign is targeted at introducing the best global road use to the people of the area and the nation at large, to ensure safe driving.

“The extensive public education this period is expected to produce zero crashes or zero death within the ember months and beyond in Kuje.

“We are going to carry out enforcement of all traffic rules and regulations within this period in Kuje Area Council.

“Road safety is a collective responsibility, and to enjoy quality road experience, we must shun all forms of anti-safety vices relating to lawlessness, recklessness, negligence and impatience among others.”

The unit commander stated that the Kuje Unit had put some measures in place to discourage speeding, dangerous driving and other road vices, which oftentimes resulted in road accidents.

Nwabuike commended the traditional rulers and sister security agencies in Kuje for their support toward achieving thorough safety on Nigeria’s roads.

“If motorists observe traffic rules and regulations, avoid speeding and ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before setting out, there will be little or no accidents.

“Road safety is a collective responsibility and to ensure hitch free ’ember months’, we must cooperate with the FRSC and shun all forms of traffic law infringement.

“It is, therefore, wise to maintain safe speed and embrace minimum safety standards, as most road accidents are caused by human factors,” he said.

The Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Kuje chapter, Alhaji Nda’ama Ismaila, appreciated the FRSC for the awareness campaign in ensuring road safety in the area.
