2 security guards docked for alleged negligent conduct

Two Security guards were on Tuesday docked in Kado Grade I Area Court for alleged negligence.

The police charged Akaeme Emeka and Simeon Ameh with negligent conduct.

The Prosecution Counsel, Charity Nwosu, told the court that, on Jan. 22 at about 3:30 pm the complainant, Sharon Emeamara of Julius Berger Utako Abuja, reported the matter at Utako, Police Station.

Nwosu alleged that on the said date, the defendants being security guards attarched to the Julius Berger Company main yard Utako, formed criminal intentions and abandoned their duty posts .

She alleged that their negligent conduct, paved way for thieves to gain entrance into the premises of the company where they vandalised five vehicles including buses and hilux vans.

The prosecution told the court that the thieves removed several valuable parts in the vehicles causing huge loss to the company.

Nwosu said, during police investigation the defendants admitted to the crime, adding that they could not give a satisfactory account of their actions.

She said the offence contravene section 196 of the penal code law.

The defendants however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Presiding Judge, Malam Muhammed Wakili, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum N200, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.

Wakili, ordered that the surety must be reliable with a means of livelihood and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

He added that the surety must also provide a BVN print out, recent passport photograph and a valid identification card, which must be verified by the court registrar.

The Judge adjourned the matter until March.16, for hearing.
