Jailbird bags 3 years imprisonment in Ondo

An Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State on Wednesday sentenced a 27 years old welder, Olusegun Osowe, to three years imprisonment for prison escape.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Philip Akinlosetu, convicted Osowe on a three-count charge bordering on felony, breach of peace and unlawful escape from the Correctional Centre.

Akinlosetu summarily sentenced the convict after his guilty plea.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp Ayodeji Omoyeigha told the court that a court of competent jurisdiction had convicted and sentenced the jail bird to two years imprisonment for burglary and stealing on Oct. 22, 2022.

Omoyeigha told the court that the convict had escaped from the Okitipupa Correctional Centre before he was re-arrested and -re-arraigned for felony, breach of peace and unlawful escape from correctional centre.

He said the offences contravened Sections 135, 249(d) and 18(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Law of Ondo State, 2006.
