Udubo crash: FRSC boss orders immediate establishment of unit command
The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC) Mr Dauda Biu, has directed the immediate establishment of a unit command with necessary operational facilities in Gamawa, Bauchi State to avert road crashes.
This is contained in a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Mr Bisi Kazeem on Friday in Abuja.
Biu gave the order following the fatal crash that occured in the early hours of Friday.
He said that it was necessary for the establishment of a unit command to tackle all incidences relating to abuse of traffic rules as well as entrench safety along that route, specifically, to curtail excesses of erring drivers.
Our correspondent reports that the fatal lone crash involved a commercial Toyota Hummer Bus with registration number JMA 59 XA.
The bus was conveying 24 people plying through Hadejia-Potiskum route which lost control and ran into 11 other victims who were seated underneath a tree in Udubo town.
From the crash investigation report, 35 people were involved; 10 victims (male adults) sustained different injuries.
Twenty-five victims comprising 9 male adults, 11 female adults, 2 male children and 3 female children were killed.
Specifically, 24 of those who lost their lives were onboard the vehicle while the remaining 1 victim was amongst the 11 people seated underneath the tree.
The crash occured due to overloading, excessive speed and tyre burst which led to loss of control.
Biu however, commiserated with the families of the deceased and wished the injured soonest recovery while calling for caution, especially during the Ramadan.
