Senator-elect donates foodstuffs to orphanage in Ibadan
Alhaji Sharafadeen Alli, the Senator-elect for Oyo South Senatorial District, on Tuesday, donated food items to an orphanage in Ibadan.
Alli presented the items to the management of Federation of Muslim Women Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Oyo State chapter, led by its President, Alhaja Bisi Oloso.
Our correspondent reports that Alli, a former Secretary to the State Government, is the Maye Balogun of Ibadan land.
Our correspondent reports that among the items donated were bags of rice, cartons of noodles, toiletries, cartoons of beverages, packs of sugar, detergent and crates of eggs.
He said that the items were donated as a form of support and partnership with the orphans and the less-privileged in the society.
Alli said that the donation was part of his contributions to eradicate poverty and lessen the burden of the less-privileged in the society.
He appreciated the management of the orphanage for taking good care of the children, despite the cost implication, saying that it was a great
humanitarian work.
“This is not a new thing. I have been doing it for a long time. I believe one of the ways of passing things across to the people is to assist the less-privileged with whatsoever God has given to me.
“It is our own little way of partnering with the less-privileged in the society, having recognised the need for us to assist those who are in need of our support.
“I’m using this medium to appeal to the people to come to the aid of these children. Many of these women are retired and they sometimes use their personal money,” he said.
Alli pledged to take the matters of the orphans, the less-privileged and people living with disabilities very seriously upon resumption at the senate.
In her remarks, Oloso applauded the senator-elect for the gesture, especially at this period when everything was costly in the society.
She described Alli as a free giver, who was s very reliable and consistent in keeping his promises.
Oloso, who narrated their challenges, appealed to the well-to-do in the society to identify with the orphanage.
