Umahi appeals to I-G to suspend operation 'Puff Adder' implementation in Ebonyi

Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi, has urged council chairmen in the 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the State to execute water and rural electrification projects in their domain.

Umahi made the call during the inauguration of the state branch of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Abakaliki on Thursday.

Our correspondent reports that the ultramodern ALGON complex has office accommodation for the 13 local governments in the state.

The governor said that the project was part of efforts to ensure more dividend of democracy to the people.

He said that creating people’s oriented projects in the rural areas could go a long way to open the state to more investors.

“As a leader, you must put the people first in order to leave lasting legacies.

“I assure you, my people that the incoming administration in the state will continue with the vision and mission of transforming Ebonyi to become the Dubai of Africa.

“I urge you, the chairmen, to work in synergy with the traditional rulers to achieve rural electrification, water supply and other life touching amenities across the state.

“One thing that is very outstanding in Ebonyi state is that we do everything to make sure that we work to leave a legacy in our local governments.

“It is important that when God brings you to power, you work for the people. You cannot work for the people, and God will not bless you,” Umahi said.

In his remarks, the state ALGON Chairman, Mr Ogodoali Nome, commended Umahi on his developmental projects across the communities.

“Ebonyi under Umahi for the past eight years has overtaken all other states in the country in terms of development,” Nome said.

Also, Mr Donatus Njoku, the Commissioner for Local Government and Rural Development, described the ALGON house as an invaluable facility that would further strengthen the bond among the local government areas and their chairmen.
