An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Friday, ordered the remand of three persons in a Correctional Centre over their alleged membership of a secret cult.

The defendants, Owoyemi Oluwole, 38, Ekundayo Dada, 32, and Ojonugwa John, 33, of unknown addresses, are facing trial for alleged membership of a secret cult.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, who did not take the plea of the defendants, however, ordered that the accused persons be remanded in the correctional centre pending legal advice by the state Director of Public Prosecution.

He adjourned the case until May 22 for mention.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp Caleb Leramo, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on April 6 at about noon in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendants were found to be members of Aye confraternity.

According to him, the offence contravened Section 41 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendants in a correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
