Road crash claims 5 lives on Yenagoa-Amasoma road in Bayelsa

A road crash involving a Toyota SUV and Maza car killed 5 occupants of the Mazda car, the Police Command in Bayelsa said.

SP Asinim Butswat, Police Public Relations Officer in Bayelsa who confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Saturday, said the accident occured on Friday.

“On 28 April, 2023 at about 1500 hours, a Black Toyota SUV with Reg number RGM-38-HM, had a head-on collision with a Mazda 323F car with Reg No.NEM-456-PG, along the Amassoma Road, Yenagoa Local Government Area.

“Four passengers and the driver of the Mazda car died on the spot. A female passenger was rescued and hospitalised at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri.

“Corpses of the victims were deposited at the same hospital for autopsy,” Butswat said.

He said that efforts were underway to arrest the driver of the SUV car and to ascertain the cause of the fatal car crash.

Our correspondent recalls that the Dean of Student Affairs at Niger Delta University, Amadoma, in Bayelsa, died in a car crash on the same road in a line car crash on Jan 21.
