2 men docked over alleged burglary, theft

Two men, Dami Gboyega,18 and Hammed Adeshittu, 29, on Tuesday, appeared before an Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court, in Lagos, for alleged burglary and stealing of N1.8 million.

The defendants, whose house addresses were not provided, are facing a 10-count charge of felony, conspiracy, stealing, breaking and entry and malicious damage.

The Prosecutor, DSP Gbemileke Agoi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between October 2022 and March, at Jayesinmi Balogun Estate, Parafa area in Ikorodu.

Agoi alleged that the defendants conspired with their accomplices, now at large and stole several items after they broke into seven different stores.

The prosecutor said the complainant’s include Obasi Ifeanyi; Moriat Yakubu; Olaore Oluwatoyin; Ayeni Oluwasegun; Emeka David; Laura Ebatachi and Olaifa Paul.

The prosecutor said some of the items allegedly stolen were, Infinix cell phone valued N50, 000, iPhone 13, worth N250,000 and blue tooth N5000.

Others are a carton of tap water imported valued N200, 000, three catoons of shower tap valued N200, 000.

He further alleged that the defendants also stole an HP Laptop valued N300,000, MP player valued N25,000 and a blackberry cell phone worth N60,000.

Others are Samsung cell phone worth N60,000, Gotv N7,500, 10 pieces of customized t-shirt valued 30,000 among others.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections, 411, 287, 307(1) 307(2), 340, 340, 287 340 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.B Olagbegi-Adelabu, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1million each with two sureties in like sum.

Olagbegi-Adelabu, ordered that the address of the surety must be verified.

She adjourned the case until May 11 for mention.
