Businessman docked for allegedly receiving 3 stolen pillar irons

A 19-year-old businessman, Bala Umar, was on Thursday docked in an Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, FCT for allegedly receiving three stolen pillar irons valued at N100,000.

The police charged Umar who resides in Gwagwalada FCT, with receiving stolen property.

The Prosecution Counsel, S.K. Iyakwo told the court that the case of criminal trespass and theft was reported against one Umar Bala on April 27.

Iyakwo said that Bala sold the said irons to the defendant at a dishonest price of N3,200 and during investigation the irons were recovered from the defendant.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provision of Section 317 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Abdullahi Abdulkarim admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

Abdulkarim ordered that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the case until May 23 for hearing.
