Operation Delta Safe gets new Commander
Rear Admiral Olusegun Ferreira, has assumed duty as the new Commander of Operation Delta Safe (OPDS).
Ferreira who assumed duty on Friday in Yenagoa, pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessor in curbing oil theft and other criminal activities in the area.
Our correspondent reports that Ferreira took over from Rear Admiral Aminu Hassan as Commander of the Joint Military Task Force.
He particularly commended Hassan for the successes recorded and pledged to work harder to fully secure their areas of responsibility.
Ferreira expressed confidence that the team of officers at the OPDS will do more in the interest of the country.
The new Commander urged those involved in illegal activities to desist, turn a new leaf and go into legitimate businesses.
In his remarks, Hassan commended the officers and men for their commitment which enabled the OPDS to record tremendous achievements.
He also commended the government and people of Bayelsa for their support and cooperation to the command.
Hassan said his zero tolerance for illegality guided the command to achieve good operational and administrative results.
“We were able to reduce crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta area.
“We were also able to mop up illegal arms which gives criminals the mind to operate freely.
“Now the sea and the area is secure for legitimate businesses to operate,” he said.
