A Canada-based Nigerian and multiple award-winning Disc Jockey, Philip Tekeyi, has commended Nigerian DJs for their efforts in making the nation’s music industry gain massive acceptance in the international scene.

Tekeyi, popularly known DJ Phil Baddest, said this during an interview with our corrrspondent on Thursday.

According to him, Nigerian DJs based abroad are dominating the music scene far away from home and adding more quality to the steady growth of the industry.

“I reside here in Toronto, Canada and I can testify to how we the DJs are contributing our own quota in putting Nigeria and Afro-beat on stages around cities in Canada.

“I have performed around cities in Canada like Niagara Falls, Brampton, Kitchener, London Ontario, Branford, Belleville Hamilton, Waterloo, and the acceptance to afrobeat has been awesome.

“If you have observed the evolution of African music, you won’t deny that DJs have been a necessary link between music track and its intended audience,“ he said.

Tekeyi, who just released a new song and the visuals titled, “Wole Wa”, featuring a Nigerian Afro-pop singer known as Lyta, said DJs now top music charts.

“DJs are now topping the music chart with their hit music tracks by featuring music artistes and also making albums.

“The DJ profession is now more than just mixing and changing songs for people to dance; we are now headlining shows and concerts,“ he said.

Speaking on what makes him unique as a DJ, he said that he knows how to read the crowd and create a vibe that is second to none.

“I make sure to create a unique and immersive experience for my audiences. With my skills in beat-matching, mixing, and manipulating tracks, I take my audiences on a musical journey, building and releasing their tension,” he said.

NAN reports that Tekeyi already has notable singles under his projects, with hit songs like “Bam Bam” featuring Yungsam, and “Remind Myself”, featuring Ellse from Toronto, Canada.

He has worked with many of Toronto’s rising stars such as Dr. Bushman, CasperTNG, Road Runner, Geezy Loc, Ox Snap, LocoCity, and Yung Tory, among others.

He is also set to release his debut extended play (EP) which will feature artistes like Lyta, Yungsam, Ellse, Dunde, Blessoo.

At the Africa Canada Investment Summit – ACIS (2022), held in Toronto, Canada, Tekeyi was awarded for the ‘Most Inspiring Personality’ in his field.
