2 docked for allegedly stealing cell phone

A stylist, Veronica Abel, 27, and a carpenter, Gilbert Ogezi, 30 were on Thursday arraigned before a Karu Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing a handset worth N150,000.

The Police charged the duo, both of Kuruduma, Asokoro, Abuja with criminal trespass and theft.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Mr Edwin Ochayi, told the court that the defendants went into the complainant’s shop for some registration.

He said that while there, they conspired and stole a techno Camon 19 cell phone valued N150,000.

Ochayi said that the defendants also stole two other cell phones belonging to a customer which value was yet unknown.

He said that during police investigation, the defendants could not give satisfactory account of themselves.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provisions of sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The Judge, Umar Mayana, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N300, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

He said that the sureties must live within the court’s jurisdiction.

The Judge adjourned the case until May 25 for further hearing.
