Baptist conference donates cash to 24 widows in Plateau
The Baptist Conference in Plateau has donated cash to 24 widows whose husbands were killed in recent attacks in some communities of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau state.
Rev. Zacharia Oluwole, Chairman of Baptist Conference in the state, presented the cash to the beneficiaries at the funeral of Rev. Mangmwos Daniel, its slain pastor, on Saturday at Mangu.
Our correspondent reports that Daniel was killed alongside many others during the recent attacks on Kantoma community of the area.
Oluwole said that the cash donations are aimed at supporting and identifying with the widows, adding that the token would enable them earn a living.
”This is just our token of support to you and your families; this can’t in anyway be quantified with lives of husbands.
”A lot of our members are affected by the recent attacks, but these ones are most affected because they have lost their husbands who have been their sources or support,” he said.
The chairman advised the beneficiaries to put the cash into good use, in order to benefit them and their families.
In a brief sermon at the funeral, Rev. Keoleh Saleh, President of the Conference, urged the people to put their faith and trust in the Lord, in spite of the unfortunate happenings.
”Our greatest defeat as Christians is to allow these attacks, killings and destruction by the enemy to lead us to the devil.
”We must hold our faith tight; we can lose any other thing, but let’s not lose our faith in Jesus,” he advised.
The president called on Christians to be vigilant and lawfully defend themselves against there attackers.
He also called on government at all levels and security agencies to be proactive toward the protection of lives and property of the citizens.
It was reported that the conference had earlier donated relief materials, worth N3 million, to the over 500 displaced members from the affected communities in Mangu and Barking Ladi.
