The National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) has expressed its commitment to strengthen the relationship between Nigeria and the Republic of Niger through Nigeria’s arts and culture.

Its Director-General, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, said this on Friday when a delegation from Superior Military College, Republic of Niger, led by Col. Abdoul Razak Ibrahim paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

Runsewe, who said that the two countries had values in common, recalled that Nigeria and Niger got independence together in 1960.

According to him, these values should be strengthened through cultural festival of arts and culture to promote unity and peaceful co-existence between the two countries.

“For us, the military should not be about war all the time, it should be about what unite us. That is what they come to establish.

“I am happy and delighted that we receive them and they are happy that Nigeria is also promoting peaceful co-existence strategies in our communities.

“And, they said today that they have learned some few things from us to be taken back home. I think we are making progress,” NCAC Chief said.

He recalled that the NCAC brought military closer to the people in the last National Festival of Arts and Culture held in Lagos state.

“In fact, in this country today, it is the NCAC that is promoting unity between armed forces and bring them together.

“We also promote National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to reduce drugs among our youths which is also part of our culture. So, anything that promotes Nigerian culture, we are ready to support it.”

Earlier, Col. Abdoul Razak Ibrahim, said that a delegation from Niger’s military college visited Nigeria to sustain and strengthen military cooperation and border security between the two countries.

Ibrahim described Nigeria and Niger as countries that had longest border which required military support in terms of security and management.

According to him, culture also helps in promoting peaceful co-existence between the two countries because military personnel usually work in an environment with different culture.
