An Area Court sitting in Jos on Wednesday sentenced two traders, Abah George and Kennedy Amos, for conspiring and stealing a phone.

The Judge, Thomas Ajitse, who jailed the two convicts after they confessed to the crime, however, gave them an option of N10,000 fine each.

Ajitse held that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to other would-be offenders.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported by the complainant, Chidi Nduka, on Feb. 21 at Area A Police Command.

Gokwat alleged that the defendants had conspired with others, now at large, and broke into the complainant’s shop and stole an I-tel phone and a laptop before they were caught.

He told the court that police found the stolen items with the complainants and then arrested them.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of the Penal Code Law of Plateau.
