Mr Babatunde Hunpe, a former lawmaker representing Badagry Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, on Saturday inaugurated a block of six classrooms in Topo Grammar School, Topo, Badagry.

Hunpe, who represents Badagry at the 9th National Assembly, said the gesture was in fulfilment of his election campaign in 2019 to the people of the community.

Addressing the people, the former lawmaker said that he promised to facilitate classrooms in the community during the electioneering campaign in 2018.

Hunpe, represented at the inauguration by his Chief of Staff, Mr Setonji Balogun, said he had fulfilled his promise in spite losing in 2022 primary election.

“My people, before contesting the 2019 election, I went round schools in Badagry communities and saw our children sitting on the floor.

“I wasn’t happy seeing close to 100 students in a classroom receiving lesson.

“The atmosphere was not conducive for learning and promised then that I will use my position in the house to facilitate more classrooms for them.

“Today, we are not only inaugurating classrooms but with furniture and good toilets for the teachers and students.

“I am happy seeing students, who are the leader of tomorrow studying at a conducive environment,” he said.

Hunpe said that the loss of the primary election to continue to represent his people, would not stop him from helping his constituents.

In her remarks, Mrs Elizabeth Kappo, the Vice-Chairman, Badagry Local Government Area urged the students and teachers of the school to use the structure judiciously.

Kappo said that classrooms would provide more sitting space for the students of the school.

She also commended the lawmaker for fulfilling his campaign promises to the people in spite losing the seat to another candidate.

In his response after receiving the keys of the classrooms, Mr Fatai Adenuga, the Principal of the school, said the lawmaker is a very sincere and faithful person.

He assured that students and teachers of the school would take proper care of the classrooms and the furniture.

Adenuga thanked Hunpe for remembering the school and people of Topo community during his tenure.

Our correspondent reports that top APC chieftains in Badagry, residents and people of Topo community attended the ceremony.
