The World Bank, has commended Benue State Government over the successful implementation of the Nigerian Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus Programme (NG-CARES), in the State.

This was contained in a statement signed by Sir Tersoo Kula, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS), to Gov Hyacinth Alia, on Friday in Makurdi.

Kula stated that Alia received the commendation when the Independent Verification Agents Team, sent by the World Bank, visited the state, to assess the level of implementation of the programme.

Our correspondent reports that the NG-CARES Programme is an initiative of the Nigerian government, in collaboration with the World Bank, to provide support to the most vulnerable households and businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The CPS said in the statement that the Team Leader of the Independent Verification Agents, Dr. Ayopo Olotu, said the programme had been successfully implemented in Benue

He also stated that the Ag Director General of the Benue State Planning Commission, Dr. Jerome Andohol, while receiving the delegation on behalf of the governor, appreciated the governor for his unwavering support for the programme in the state.

He however, expressed concern over the interference in the programme in the past by individuals seeking to manipulate the system to make fast money.

He appealed to such individuals to desist from the nefarious act, saying the benefits of helping others always came back in unexpected ways.

Also in her remarks, the State Coordinator of NG-CARES, Mrs. Jacyntha Tor-Wombo, admitted that mistakes had been made in the past.

Tor-Wombo however, said it had become imperative that stakeholders retraced any wrong steps in order to ensure that the objectives of the programme were achieved.
