Police arraign man, 20, over alleged theft
The police, on Friday, arraigned a 20-year-old man, Ajayi Michael, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on stealing.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Johnson Okunade, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence on July 15 at about 10:15 p.m. at Ekute Area of Ado-Ekiti.
He said that the defendant and others at large stole a car battery, valued at N28,000, belonging to one Odaro Iyobosa.
Okunade also said that the defendant and others at large stole two iPhone X, valued at N1.2 million, belonging to one Bello Funmi.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Obafemi Adesina, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr A.O Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case till Aug.16 for hearing.
