Diphtheria: Senator visits victims in Kafanchan, commends efforts of medical personnel
Sen. Sunday Katung (PDP-Kaduna South), has visited victims of diphtheria in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, where the disease broke out recently.
During the visit, Katung commended the medical personnel for their prompt response in providing an isolation centre for suspected cases.
Our correspondent reports that the disease broke out in the area within the week, with no fewer than 18 victims currently receiving treatment at the Patrick Yakowa Memorial Hospital, Kafanchan.
Katung promised to provide all the necessary support needed to contain further spread of the disease in the area.
The lawmaker also prayed God for quick recovery of those suffering from the ailment.
In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Isaac Nathaniel, said the victims were children between the ages of three and 13.
“The victims exhibited symptoms ranging from sore throat, fever, headache and difficulty in breathing, amongst others,” he explained.
Nathaniel called on residents to be on the look out and report suspected cases promptly.
He also thanked the lawmaker for his show of concern towards the affected victims.
