POWA, foundation partner to improve lives of women, children

The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) and Helpline Foundation for the Needy, Abuja, an NGO, are partnering on areas to improve the lives of women and children in the country.

The National President of POWA, Mrs Elizabeth Egbatokun, made this known when she led a delegation of the executives of the association on a courtesy visit to the Founder of the foundation, on Tuesday in Abuja.

She noted that the two bodies share the same vision of impacting positively on the less privileged, especially women and children.

“We have heard so much about your organisation, Helpline Foundation for the Needy, and we felt there is the need to work together with a view to creating a mutual relationship that will benefit our women.

“Basically, we are ready to tap from your wealth of knowledge and expertise in the areas of girl child education, women empowerment through the agricultural value chain.

“We see agriculture as a catalyst for economic growth and a tool for lifting millions of our women from the shackles of poverty. It will also serve as our modest contribution to food security agenda of the present government,” Egbatokun stressed.

Responding, the foundation’s President, Dr Jumai Ahmadu, who appreciated the team for the visit, commended the present leadership of POWA for the foresight.

She, however, expressed the willingness to partner with POWA towards the establishment of demonstration farms in some selected area councils across the territory.

She stressed that such move would add value to the Food Bank initiative of Helpline Foundation.

Mrs Ahmadu, who is also the Co-convener of the Africa Women Conference used the occasion to inform the team that the 7th Edition of the Africa Women Conference, would take place in Mauritius in November 2023.

She further stated that the forthcoming women’s conference would be a platform to interact with other women from across the world, just as she called for the participation of POWA at the conference.

Those present were Mrs Bilkisu Danmallam (Wife of a Deputy Inspector General of Police – DIG), Mrs Aisha Inuwa (Wife of avDIG), Mrs Poola Adeleke (Wife of a DIG), Mrs. Salamatu Habu Sani (Wife of an AIG), amongst others.
