Police ‘ll continue to ensure peaceful protests in Oyo – CP
Following Wednesday’s nationwide protest by organised labour, the police command in Oyo State says it will continue to ensure peaceful protests, while maintaining law and order in the state.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Adewale Osifeso, said this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ibadan on behalf of the Commissioner of Police (CP), Adebola Hamzat.
Our correspondent reports that Wednesday’s protest was peaceful, though the state workers insisted on sustaining the action until Gov. Seyi Makinde addressed them personally.
Hamzat said that the command, under his leadership, had emplaced adequate security measures to ensure peaceful procession in the state.
According to him, strategic operational and intelligence asset, evident through visibility policing and confidence-building patrols, have been deployed across the 10 area commands in the state.
The police commissioner said that spotlight was particularly beamed on places of interest as well as critical infrastructure and landmarks.
Our correspondent reports that during the protest, some locations were manned by security personnel, comprising the Nigeria Police Force and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
