World Ranger Day: Kaduna State Govt. pledges support for rangers, tree planting
The Kaduna State Government has pledged support for rangers and tree planting in the state.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Malam Abubakar Buba, made the pledge at the commemoration of the 2023 World Ranger Day.
The day is celebrated worldwide on July 31st to commemorate rangers killed or injured in the line of duty and to celebrate their work in protecting the planet’s natural treasures and cultural heritage.
During a tree planting campaign on Tuesday in Kaduna, the commissioner said rangers contributed in ensuring a safe environment.
He, therefore, said marking the world ranger day was to appreciate the sacrifices the rangers made in the course of their mandate of protecting wild life and ensuring safe environment.
Buba also said that the ministry would visit and support families of rangers in the state who died or got injured in the course of their duties.
The commissioner lamented the climate issues, describing them as global issues which could be addressed through tree planting.
Buba therefore said the tree planting was symbolic, noting that the rangers and others would equally replicate it in the local government areas.
“We want to achieve our target of a cleaner and green Kaduna by 2030,” he said.
Also, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Abba Umar, said saving the environment was equal to saving mankind.
He therefore urged the people of the state to desist from indiscriminate felling of trees and hunting wild life.
Earlier, the Chief Ranger of the ministry, Yakubu Sulaiman, solicited for more working equipment and better conditions.
