The government of Nicaragua welcomed the expansion of the BRICS group, noting its role in strengthening the multipolar world and creating conditions for improving the lives of countries and peoples.

“The government of reconciliation and national unity of the Republic of Nicaragua welcomes with recognition and joy the invitation extended by the founding BRICS countries to their counterparts.

“The invitation was extended to counterparts from Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, and Iran to join this powerful group of emerging economies,” the government said in a statement.

In the statement posted on its website by government publication El 19 Digital, the Nicaraguan authorities noted that the development of BRICS will strengthen the multipolar world and gradually change the unjust and colonialist economic model, which retains its influence.

The Nicaraguan authorities further observed that the development of BRICS will deal with the infringement on the rights and freedoms of the peoples of the world by colonialist powers.

“We are confident that the inclusion of more peoples and states in the BRICS will create the necessary conditions for a better world, the construction of which is urgent and necessary.

“Congratulations and greetings to all, and especially the leaders and peoples of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa,” the statement says.

The BRICS summit was held in Johannesburg on Aug. 22-24.

It was attended by the leaders of China, India, Brazil, and South Africa.

Russia was represented by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in the summit via video conference.

During the summit, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the official invitation of Argentina, Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia to join the association.

He said that the full membership of these countries in BRICS would begin on Jan. 1, 2024.
