NNPP expels Kwankwaso amidst shocking allegations
In a bombshell move that sent shockwaves through the political landscape, the National Executive Committee of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has taken decisive action against none other than Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the party’s former presidential candidate for 2023.
This astonishing expulsion comes in the wake of Kwankwaso’s alleged refusal to answer to the party’s Disciplinary Committee.
The political saga began when Kwankwaso found himself in hot water, facing suspension from the NNPP’s leadership during the National Convention on August 29th, held in Lagos. But that was just the tip of the iceberg.
The NNPP’s National Executive Council (NEC) raised the stakes, setting up a Disciplinary Committee and extending an invitation to Kwankwaso. Their purpose? To have him defend himself against grave accusations of engaging in actions detrimental to the party and mishandling party and campaign finances. The ultimatum was clear: appear within five days or face expulsion, in accordance with the provisions of the party’s 2022 constitution (as amended).
However, the story takes a sensational twist. Mr. Abdulsalam Abdulrasaq, the Acting National Publicity Secretary of NNPP, dropped a political bombshell in a statement from Lagos. The NEC, he announced, had expelled Kwankwaso immediately. His sin? Refusing to honor the committee’s summons.
Abdulrasaq declared, “The NEC convened an emergency session on Friday, September 1, and delivered the following verdict: Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s refusal to appear before the disciplinary committee, despite written invitations, has led to his immediate expulsion from NNPP.”
But that’s not all. The bombshell continued to reverberate as Abdulrasaq stated, “The former presidential candidate, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will now face scrutiny from the relevant authorities to answer for allegations of financial impropriety related to the mismanagement of public funds.”
This shocking turn of events reveals a party in turmoil. The crisis within NNPP erupted earlier when the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), aligned with Kwankwaso, dropped a political bombshell of its own.
On August 24th, they announced the suspension of the NNPP founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, and the National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Agbo Major, setting the stage for a dramatic and tumultuous battle within the party.
As the dust settles from this explosive showdown, the political landscape in Nigeria trembles with anticipation, and the nation awaits the next chapter in this sensational political drama.
