Labourer docked for alleged unlawful possession of iron rods
The Police on Thursday in Ile-Ife arraigned at a Magistrates’ Court a 45-year-old labourer, Echenzen Victor for allegedly being in possession of iron rods he could not explain their source.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Monday at Isale Agbara area of Modakeke.
Osanyintuyi said the defendant unlawfully possessed a sack filled with cut-to-size iron rods which he could not give a satisfactory account of how he came about them.
“The offence contravened section 430 (1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant, who was not legally represented, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of unlawful possession.
Magistrate O. T. Badmus granted the bail of the defendant in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like amount.
Badmus added that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means and residence within the court jurisdiction, with the address to be verified by the Prosecutor.
He stated further that the surety must attach the photocopy of the means of identification as Nigerian citizen with the bail bond.
Meanwhile, the Magistrate ordered for the remand of the defendant at the Ile-Ife facility of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) pending the perfection of bail.
The case was adjourned until Oct. 18, for further hearing.
