Sule tasks corps members on positive impact in host communities
Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, has urged the 2023 Batch C Stream I corps members posted to the state to leverage the training during the orientation exercise to positively impact their host communities.
Sule gave the charge at the closing ceremony of the orientation course held at the Magaji Dan Yamusa NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Keffi on Tuesday.
Represented by the State’s Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Mallam Ja’afaru Ango, the governor expressed delight with the conduct of the corps members during the three-week exercise.
“It is a thing of joy to see that the orientation exercise has produced service-ready corps members who would selflessly support our development efforts in Nasarawa State,” he said.
He urged the corps members to maximise the training and skills acquired during the orientation and use same to impact the lives of the people, especially the youths and adolescents in their host communities.
“The effort will help them to develop a positive mindset and the self esteem needed to keep them off the streets and be gainfully engaged.
“Remember this is one of the many ways through which you can give back to the scheme and the nation,” he said.
The governor assured the corps members of the hospitality of the people and government of Nasarawa State, urging the corps members to feel free to relate as members of one big family.
Sule also assured the corps members of his administration’s statutory responsibility to their welfare, security and general well-being, adding that their security was guaranteed.
“I, therefore, urge you to embrace your postings in good faith in line with the posting policies of the scheme and the needs of the state.
“Your postings to the nooks and crannies of the state is geared towards achieving the objectives of the scheme and also toward bringing development to the grassroots,” he added.
In his remarks, Alh. Abdullahi Jikamshi, Coordinator of NYSC in the state also congratulated the 1, 895 corps members for the successful completion of the orientation exercise.
Jikamshi revealed that there was no casualty recorded in any of the camp activities undertaken by the corps members and camp officials throughout the three-week exercise.
“The three weeks orientation course has equipped the corps members mentally and physically to enable them face the challenges of the service year.
“I am particularly happy to announce that since their arrival on camp these corps members have exhibited a great sense of maturity, discipline, and adaptability to camp life,” he said.
He urged the corps members to sustain the spirit of patriotism, hard work and resilience, which they imbibed during the orientation exercise.
The state coordinator also admonished the corps members to undertake personal and group Community Development Service (CDS) projects that would help to uplift the living standard of their host communities and promote the relevance of the scheme as a catalyst for national development.
“I also encourage you to build on the skills acquired on camp through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme by availing yourself of opportunities for post-camp training as this will go a long way in empowering you for self reliance,” he added.
Jikamshi called on corps employers to always accept corps members posted to them and make necessary provisions for their welfare.
He appreciated Gov. Sule for his administration’s plans to begin works on building a 3000 capacity Multi-purpose hall at the orientation camp.
