The police command in Nasarawa State has banned the sales and use of fireworks in the state during the yuletide.

Mr Umar Nadada, the state Commissioner of Police (CP) said this in a statement signed by DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) on Thursday in Lafia.

The Nadada said all that divisional police officers had been directed to ensure full compliance and enforcement.

“The ban becomes necessary due to the dangers associated with the it which includes being used by criminals to create tension and carryout criminal acts.

“Others are high tendency to cause bodily injuries and fire outbreaks,” he added.

The CP warned dealers and users of fireworks to desist forthwith.

He also urged parents and guardians to discourage their children and wards from buying and igniting fireworks as individuals caught would be made to face the full weight of the law.
