Ekiti records first rain in 2024
Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, on Tuesday night, recorded the first rain in the year 2024.
Our correspondent reports that the rain, which started suddenly without any prior signs, did not last more than 30 minutes.
It started at about 10:15 p.m. and ceased at exactly 10:45 p.m.
Reports had it that among areas where it was recorded in Ado-Ekiti were Emirin, Oke-Ureje, Olokemeji, Odo Ado, Ijigbo, Okeyinmi, among others.
The rain, which caught residents unawares was, however, not accompanied with storm.
Local sources said some commuters who arrived their homes late, and who needed to trek some distances, were soaked in the rain, which poured in torrents for the few minutes it lasted.
The impact of the rains, it was also learnt, varied with location, with light showers in some parts, and slightly heavy in others.
Meanwhile, mixed reactions have greeted the early arrival of the first rain of the year.
A farmer, Mr Kunle Olorunfemi, who specialises in growing vegetables, pepper and fresh fruits, said it was a welcome development, as it would help him on his farm.
A housewife, Mrs Morenikeji James, expressed delight, saying it was a great relief and had reduced the hot weather, created by the dry season.
“I am indeed happy that the first rain of the year, fell without a storm and there was no report of any destruction of property.
“If you observed, the weather had been so hot and unfriendly for sometime now. I believe this rain will help create a relief,” she said.
