The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it is engaging all necessary stakeholders to ensure a hitch-free state Assembly by-election in Chibok constituency of Borno.

The Public Affairs Officer of INEC in Borno, Mr Abba Liberty, made this known on Monday in an interview with our reporter in Maiduguri.

Liberty said that the commission had been engaging participants in the election in Chibok, including security agencies.

“We have been engaging security agencies and they have assured us of enough security,” Liberty said.

It was reported that INEC is conducting the Chibok by-election following the death of the initial winner of the 2023 election, late Nuhu Clerk.

Some of the candidates for Feb. 3 by-election include Abdullahi Gambo of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hamid Zamzam of Action Democratic Party (ADP) and Lawan Pagu of All Progressives Congress (APC).

Others include Abdullahi Lawan of Allied People’s Movement (APM), Haruna Shettima of Action People’s Party (APP), Habila Bello of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Maina Sheriff of Social Democratic Party (SDP).
