AFCON 2023: Owan Enoh, Oliseh hail Eagles’ win against Bafana Bafana

Sen. John Owan-Enoh, the Minister of Sports Development has lauded Super Eagles on securing a finals spot at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.

The three-time African champions defeated their South African counterparts 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time in the first semi- final game at the Stade De Bouake Stadium.

Nigeria had an impressive performance with goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali emerging as Player of the Match following a couple of saves especially in the penalty shootout.

After the game, Owan-Enoh congratulated the team, charging them to bring the trophy home.

”My dear Super Eagles, today you have given every Nigerian compatriot a reason to rejoice. We all doff our hats to you,” Owan-Enoh wrote on his X handle.

”You have shown us all that the Nigerian spirit is a winning spirit. You are conquering the continent one match at a time. Bravo, heroes of our time.

”You have set your goals high and you have not stopped. Keep soaring and bring home the Africa Cup of Nations. Unto the Finals. Congratulations!!!,” he stated.

Similarly, Sunday Oliseh, former coach and captain of the Super Eagles, praised Nwabali’s composure in between the sticks via his X handle.

”Nwabali ! Nwabali !! Nwabali !!! After (Victor) Osimhen’s five star performance, another hero is born!

”What composure, belief in God and a reassuring smile by our Naija goalkeeper to send us to the AFCON Final. Now I can face my FIFA colleagues with a smile. ,” Oliseh wrote.

Our correspondent reports that Nigeria sealed their place in the Africa Cup of Nations final after a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory against South Africa on Wednesday.

Nigeria will face hosts Côte D’Ivoire in the finals of the event on Sunday.
